Why the Making a Hard Right Title?

Coming up with titles of books is not extremely hard when it’s clear on what you want. Sometimes I know the title before the plot.

Then there are the stories that I start writing and realize I have no clue on what to call it.

My struggle came with the Turns in Love series I decided to write this year. And I really mean “decided.” It was not planned prior to the week before I started writing this story.

I had my dream of publishing my first novel that has been on my hard drive for too many years. Then I read an article about novellas. They are short and to the point and easier to write than full-on novels. Why not try it? This way, readers can get to know me as a writer before I drop a novel.

The first book was Two Lefts, One Right, which got its title from the phrase “two wrongs don’t make a right.” I could not use that saying as a title so I had to find another way to say it. You can read more about how I came up with that title here

Making a Hard Right was my way of trying to stick with the “turns” part. It seems crazy and I can’t even say how it got to the whole directional play on words, but that’s where we are lol.

After Two Lefts (wrongs), One Right (doing the right thing), I needed something to take it a step further. Especially with the circumstances in book 2. A hard right in this case means something that you know you have to do but don’t want to. It’s too hard. That is exactly what Kim faces.

You, the reader, know what is happening with Kim, but everyone else in the book doesn’t. Once everything begins to play out, she will have to choose whether she will do the right thing, no matter how hard it is, or she’ll be like, “NOPE! Not doing it!”

I hope that made sense. The real problem is naming the third book. All these left and right turns have to come to an end. I want my title to reflect that end, but I haven’t figured that one out yet. This may be one of those cases where I have to finish writing the book before naming it.

If that fails, I’ll be back here asking you for help. That might actually be fun 😉
